Early cameras of the 16th and 17th century were competent to project images onto paper or glass but the study of capturing, processing and printing the images took some more years. Up until the 17th century, scientists believed that light was composed basically of the ‘white’ that is sensed by the humane eye. It took the exploration done by famous physicist Isaac Newton to discover that light is in truth composed of a spectrum of colors. While he made a huge contribution to the study of optics (that is at the core of camera advances) with this discovery, Newton did not actually have anything to do with camera development per se.

The early camera that primary became a phenomenon was a little more than a pinhole camera and may be traced back to 1558. It was called the Camera Obscura. The Camera Obscura was seen as a drawing tool for a clearer and realistic portrayal of objects. It was in the early 19th century that an invention named the Camera Lucida was introduced by Cambridge scientist William Hyde Wollaston that consisted of an optical device that could support an artisan view a distant scene or person or object on a paper surface that he or she was using to draw. In other words the artisan gets to view a superimposed effigy of a subject on paper and this effigy could be efficaciously applied to undertake to draw, trace or paint it. Both the Camera Obscura and the Camera Lucida provided an effigy that was temporary, which could not be lastingly captured on to paper for later reference.

Studies nonetheless continued well into the 1800′s on how to in truth capture the effigy onto material. It was for the duration of this time, around 1822 that French researcher Joseph Nicephore Niepce, developed the introductory photograph by using paper that was coated with a chemical. The effigy would not stay permanently on the paper and would vanish after a short while. Even so, in spite of the short-lived nature of the image, the conception of photography was born with this experiment and paved the way for further study and development in this field.

Capturing images to retain them longer and permanently became the next huge quest for researchers. Another Frenchman Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre partnered with Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1829, to formulate the procedure of creating permanent photographs. Joseph Niépce passed from physical life in 1833 but Daguerre continued with the work and succeeded in 1837 after a good deal of long years of experimentation. The procedure of capturing photographic images that would not fade away, introduced by Daguerre came to be known as the ‘daguerreotype’.

The word ‘photography’ was coined by scientist Sir John F.W. Herschel in 1839 and it is actually is derived from two Greek words ‘photos’ meaning light and ‘graphein’ meaning draw.

A somewhat more modern version of the daguerreotype called the Calotype routine that makes multiple copies possible using the negative and positive method became available very soon after. In fact, it was for the duration of the 1840′s that the use of photographic images in advertisements initial started and cameras made their mark on the power of visual communication. It was not much later, in the 1850′s that photographers firstborn started experimenting with underwater photography of seascapes.

Up until 1850, the routine of capturing images was cumbersome requiring upto half an hour of light exposure. The invention made in 1851 by Frederick Scott Archer was a benediction since the new method termed the Collodion routine called for just 2-3 seconds of light exposure to capture an image.

Prior to 1871, photographers went through a development routine where they had to coat the plate with wet chemical each and each time and routine the effigy immediately. With the invention the gelatin arid plate silver bromide procedure by Richard Leach Maddox, negatives did not have to be invented immediately. This was an indispensable invention since up until then the captured effigy had to be processed instantly.

Kodak invented in 1888 by George Eastman has been a innovative day pioneer of sorts in cameras and photography for the masses. George Eastman and the scientists who worked with him at Kodak produced the photographic film in 1889 and made it available in rolls for the mass use of consumers. An crucial milestone in our amusement and communication history was the development of transparent roll film by Eastman. This development led to another key invention – the motion picture camera by Thomas Edison’s in 1891.

–>Modern Times

During the 20th century the pace of technology development in cameras and photography continued at an sped pace much like a good deal of other key engineering developments. While various key inventions like car, telephone and the gramophone record happened in the later half of the 19th century, it is the last 100 years that saw major developmental work in numerous areas of communications technology and as well as in other fields – TV, aircrafts, PCs, digital technology, digital cameras, mobile phones, fax machines and the internet, to name a few.

In the case of the camera, the developments simplified the whole routine of photography, making it accessible to one and all at lowpriced prices and the camera industry denizens of our times made it into a mass phenomenon. The introductory mass use camera became available at the turn of the 20th century and may be traced back to the year 1900. There are hundreds of models of cameras available today both for the novice as well as the professional and the camera is an essential portion of any family’s repertoire of will have to have gadgets.

–>20th century chronology in the history of the camera:

1913: 35 mm still-camera created

1927: The flash bulb introduced by General Electric Co. (The conception of camera flash existed much before but was based on the use of a flash light powder that was devised by German researchers)

1935- 1941: Kodak starts merchandising Kodachrome film and subsequently launches Kodacolor negative film. Canon freed the Hansa Canon in 1936, the introductory 35mm focal-plane shutter camera.

1948: The conception of the Polaroid camera is introduced in the market. American scientist Edwin Land produced the procedure for instant photography. Later Polaroid Corporation formulated the ‘instant color’ film around 1963.

1957: Frenchman Jaques Yves Cousteau invented the firstborn waterproof 35mm camera for underwater photography named the Calypso Phot. The actual camera was devised by the Belgian airplane technical architect Jean de Wouters based on the blueprint and suggestions given to him by Cousteau.

1972: The electronic camera that does not require film was devised and patented by Texas Instruments. This is notwithstanding not the same as a digital camera even though you don’t require film in digital cameras as well. The launch of the digital camera is still some years away.

1975: Kodak’s experiments with digital imaging kicked off around the mid seventies but it will take another 20 years before a digital camera for the home buyer market is launched.

1978 – 1980: Asian players like Konica and Sony commence to make their mark. The ‘point and shoot’ automatic focus camera is launched by Konica while Sony starts talking when it comes to the camcorder and demonstrates a prototype.

1981: Sony launches a commercially available electronic still camera. Similar to the 1972 invention by Texas Instruments, the Sony electronic camera came with a mini disc on which images were recorded and stored. The recorded images could be later printed or viewed on a monitor using a reader device.

1985: Digital processing technology makes it is entry. Digital imaging and processing is introduced by Pixar.

1986: The camera industry becomes even more buyer concentered and taps the fun and travel connotations behind camera usage, with the launch of the conception of the disposable single use cameras. Fuji is credited with the development of this concept.

Also in 1986 – 1987, Kodak started taking giant strides in digital development. Digital means, the photographic effigy is divided into tiny units of dots or squares known as pixels. Pixels are the programmable units of an effigy that may be processed by computers. Each effigy could be made up of millions of pixels. The use of pixels in digital engineering allows storing huge volumes of pixels to deliver high definition print quality.

1990: Kodak introduces Photo CD’s. It is a system of storing photographic images on CD and then looking at them on a computer. With this development the user-friendly approach of the camera industry begun to take concrete shape.

1991: Kodak introduces a digital camera purposed at pros and journalists. Kodak is credited with the invention of a pixel based camera technology known to us as the digital camera. Digital cameras don’t use film similar to their predecessor electronic cameras but the storage method is exclusively dissimilar and the final photograph is of much higher resolution. In a digital camera photos are recorded and stored in digital form. This digital selective information may be transposed to a computer and processed for printing. Kodak and Canon are well known digital camera manufacturers and there are likewise various other key brands as well.

1994: The Apple QuickTake camera, a home use digital camera is launched. This is followed by the launch of a clutch of home use digital cameras by Casio, Kodak and others in quick succession for the duration of 1995 -’96.

–>The digital era:

The development of digital camera engineering science is considered to be linked to the development of TV and Video technology. The principles of transmission and recording of audio-visual images using digital electrical impulses finds use in camera imaging as well.

Through the 1990′s the developments continued in camera technology, the focus now shifting to the field of digital imaging which is where the future lies. Use-friendly features like software that may download digital images directly from camera onto home computers for storing and sharing on the internet is the new norm in the market place.

The camera, the computer, the software industry and the international web are today irrevocably interlinked to empower the user in experiencing the gains of camera usage to full potential. The innovation that sparked a great deal of an invention in the camera industry found it is way into the digital world as well and continued among digital camera manufacturers. During 2001, the Kodak and Microsoft cooperative relationship ensured that digital camera makers could use the power of Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) ordinary through Windows. The digital photo experience is a key visual driver in the Internet era. Many of Kodak digital camera models with EasyShare capablenesses are compatible with Windows XP. The Kodak EasyShare software enables users to transfer digital camera pictures directly from camera to their computers and then print the pictures or even email them.

Manufacturers in a affiliated industry like the printing industry have adapted their productions to be in sync with the images produced by digital cameras. Cell phone manufacturers have tied up with digital camera makers to invent new age camera phones in recent years. These camera phones may capture images and portion the images through the cell phone.

Among the 21st century digital developments are the modern product offerings from digital cameras makers and these are sure to occupy an crucial place in the ensuing history of camera development. For instance, the Kodak Professional DCS Pro SLR/c is a high-end digital camera and the Kodak internetsite calls the DCS Pro SLR models the most feature-rich digital cameras on the market. It has an effigy sensor that may handle 13.89 million pixels and this makes it the most eminent solution digital camera available. High solution determines the sharpness or level of detail in photographic images. This is just a glimpse of the capablenesses that digital engineering science places in a user’s hands. Digital camera sales figures for 2003 show that the two key players Kodak and Canon have recorded impressive growth.

–>What does the future holds for camera users?

The features offered by digital cameras may be rather mind-boggling for the intermediate user and beauteous stimulating for most pros. Four key ongoing camera developments that are likely to further improve the procedure of photography:

1. Greater solution from even the simplest, low cost camera models

2. Usage in any type of lighting conditions,

3. Compatibility all over a range of software, hardware and effigy types

4. Rich colors and tone

While the higher-end digital evolution continues, the prices of the simple camera have crashed to such an extent that even children and teens are proud owners of uncomplicated cameras. The camera and photography interest starts young and this brings about a veritably huge audience base for the camera industry.

And allround history, it is apparent that the endeavor of researchers and developers has been to make the camera available to a wide section of society. Without camera engineering science and photography, the other key developments of cinema and TV would have been delayed and what a boring place the world would have been without TV and films!!

ReviewDisplaying the latest in contemporary aesthetics, Corelle’s Square Round line comprises of square plates and bowls with rounded corners, delineated round centers, and subtly lifted rims. The Simple Lines pattern presents a white background minimally graced by various swooping thin lines of black. The effect is at once stark yet artistically appealing, creating a dinnerware pattern that may be used for everyday, year-round dining or saved for particular occasion entertaining.

Like all Corelle dinnerware, Simple Lines is made of laminated layers of glass that manufacture unbelievable strength while being very lightweight, thin, and stackable. Moreover, because the enamel pigments are fired onto the dinnerware, the design won’t fade or scratch off over time. This 16-piece set is comprised of four of each of the following: 10-1/4-inch dinner plate, 8-3/4-inch lunch plate, 22-ounce cereal or soup bowl, and 12-ounce porcelain mug. While sudden changes in temperature will have to be avoided, Corelle Square Round is safe for the microwave, oven, and dishwasher, and is covered by a 3-year warranty versus chips and breakage. –Ann Bieri

The old set start getting gray and streaky as if the years of utensils against the surface in daily use finally took a toll. When I decided to replace that set, I had no doubt that it would be with another set of Corelle. It is lightweight, dishwasher and microwave safe, is thin enough to not stack too high in the cabinet, and it stays nice looking even with heavy use.

This set arrived well packed, the Corelle box and bubble packing inside another box, and everything was intact. The plates are really big! We will probably end up using the lunch plates as dinner plates sometimes. The bowls also have a very large capacity, easily two cups.

One main difference between this set and my old one is the coffee cups are not the same material as the dishes… they used to be made of the same ‘vitrelle’ and now are porcelain. I like the new ones better; they have a little more heft and keep my coffee warmer longer, and they are more elegant than our regular old unmatched mugs.

I love the squared shape of all the pieces, even the cups are a bit square. Perhaps it is because of the shape that the pieces all seem to have so much capacity. I like this pattern, Simple Lines, because it is a simple contemporary desigh. If I have one complaint it would be that the lines don’t look solid and dark on the plates; in places the lines look like chalk stripes.

K. Herman
I love these plates – they are attractive and durable. In particular, the cups and bowls are good, practical sizes. My one complaint is that the black stripes are a different finish and rougher texture from the rest of the plate. Occasionally when a fork scrapes across one, we all get spine-tingles! If you are sensitive to this, you probably want to choose a different style. But I do highly recommend Corelle in general. My 5-yr-old cannot seem to destroy them (and he does try).

I am here to buy another (always compare prices).

I had Corelle growing up and liked the lightweight nature of it and the durability. However, the patterns were not so hot for a while. The newer patterns are great! I gave my old dishes to a college-bound relative when I got these. It was just too hard on my hands lifting 4 stacked stoneware plates from the diswasher to the cupboard.

FYI, and stoneware/porcelain/ceramic dishes with chips should be discarded as dirt/bacteria can get into the unglazed part and you can’t get it out. I don’t like taking chances with my family’s safety. I have never chipped a Corelle dish. My mother did drop one at walmart and it shattered into about a zillion shards, so it is possible.

The only bummer about this set is that the mugs ARE NOT corelle glass. They match but are ceramic. My old set had corelle mugs. The paint does look slightly different as it is on a different surface. The bowls also only have a black rim, too bad the lines aren’t on them. I do see they have added some companion pieces. Still waiting for smaller dessert/salad plates to match this set.

Nice everyday dishes that can take rough handling of a family.

People always want to recognise what to wear for a portrait session and I’d tell you “wear whatsoever you commonly wear” but, well, I’ve been known to wear a great deal of reasonably bizarre concoctions if I think I’m not leaving the house and then determine I need to go to the grocery store and there I am in a linen skirt, ratty old t-shirt and crocs and I’d genuinely rather not have myself preserved on film in one of those get-ups. I know I’m a walking “before” picture for a fashion make-over but with little kids and a computer full of backlogged proofing I can’t always rather be troubled and if I do there’s numerous odd risks involved in costume when you have preschoolers. Today I’ve stepped in chocolate milk and sat in honey. So I’m going to pretend that you are like me and in your each day life wear things that are, perhaps, not QUITE as lovely as you’d like to present yourself and your family to the world.

So…

Newborns: Newborns must be naked. If you have a special, heirloom outfit or a sweet little sweater somebody made for you, have it ready. If you have a quilt somebody made for you that is indispensable to you, have it ready. Solid colored, lightweight swaddling fabric is good to have around as are cute hats, simple headbands but don’t feel the need to invest in anything you don’t already have because, well, naked is good.

There, wasn’t that easy? Not even any buying goods required.

Girls: You ought to grant her to dress herself and then subtract from the outfit anything you genuinely hate and cannot bear to see on your wall. This IS a portrait of her and her costume must reflect who she is, not who Gap or Tea Collection want her to be and my goal is to get a portrait of the actual child, not a to a considerable degree stylized advert for childhood. Be conscious that she’ll probably be dirty by the time I’m done with her (I do tend to give hope or courage to children to play and that messes them up) so keep out of the way of anything so cherished you couldn’t bear it if it got stained. Does she have a stuffed bear she won’t put down? Bring it. Does she insist on wearing a tutu over everything, including her snow suit? Leave it. When she’s grown up you’ll want to do not forget her as she was, tutu, snowsuit, stuffed bear and all.

OK, you want specific instructions. A solid colored dress made out of woven fabric like linen, not a knit or t-shirt type fabric, with some swing to the cut and a heap of texture. Going a size up often times helps with the flow. If you keep it simple the final picture will stay when it comes to the child, not the styling.

Boys: Again, the goal is to make a portrait of the child, not a magazine spread, so don’t make yourself nuts with the styling. Let him wear what he likes and take away anything you hate. Jeans, a plain shirt and a heap of kind of layering are perfect. Feel free to invest in a new t-shirt – they ofttimes tend to get subtly “pilly” after a while.

Families: Unless you tend to wear matching reindeer sweaters in real life, you shouldn’t wear them for your portraits. Instead of attempting to match everyone lay out all the things you are thinking of wearing and ask yourself if this would work if it were one outfit. Do the patterns go nicely together? Is there galore variety? Then you are good to go!

Things to Avoid:

I once, when observing the summer Olympics, observed a man who had just medaled in butterfly, a physically demanding stroke, stand, poolside, in a Speedo. This was before swimmers wore full body suits and he was in tight, underwear like spandex. There was a bit of what looked like a spare tire around his waist and I thought if THIS MAN, who is regarding as physically fit as it is humanly possible to be, looks less than perfective in a Speedo there is plainly no hope for any other man anywhere.

There are some items of costume that look bad on you no matter how good you look. Some specific things to avoid:

Speedos. You’ll freak me out if you show up to your photo session in a Speedo and see the anecdote above in regards to the world class swimmer.

Yoga pants, sweat pants, or any variation thereof. These only look passable on the pretzel chick from your yoga class. If you are a professional dancer, go for it. For the rest of us mere mortals, no.

Polo shirts. They drape in unflattering ways. I recognise they are comfortable. I recognise you wear them each day. Don’t wear them for your photo shoot. Please.

Khakis. Ubiquitous these days, most of these are designed by the same sadists who make high school band uniforms to look bad on everyone. At least, different from those marching band uniforms, khakis are seldom 100% polyester but you must still stay clear from them.

Athletic shoes and Crocs. Big bulky shoes just look lousy in pictures. If it’s summer, go barefoot or wear sandals. In winter go for flattering boots.

Giant headbands for the baby with silk flowers as huge as the baby’s head and an elastic band that looks eerily like a cheap garter. There are beautiful, simple headbands available on Etsy if you have a headband yen.
