That cherished little person in your life is unquestionably the cutest thing on the planet earth, and in a positive manner the most intelligent! Why, he was born speaking Greek, and you don’t even know any alien languages!

But seriously, language is one of the primary ways developmental growth in children is noticed by the frequent population. Mom and Dad and Grandma and Grandpa know this baby is the next Baseball Hall of Famer or Albert Einstein, but the cashier at the supermarket won’t know diddly squat in regards to that endearing big blue eyed baby unless she may speak intelligently while strapped safely in the buying goods cart.

So how may one aid advertize language achievements besides reciting the abc’s and Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star over and over again?

Starting with finger plays, action rhymes, and songs to sing, there will be a heap of activenesses listed. Each will explain the multi purposes of and the age of the child for which the action is intended. More will be added over time as they are found.

FOR  MOTOR  SKILLS  WITH  TODDLERS:

Start with clapping and tapping your hands and feet. Let your toddler mimic your actions.

Read the following rhyme, clapping and tapping when indicated:

I have two little hands that clap, clap, clap.

I have two little feet that tap, tap, tap.

Clap,  clap,  clap.

Tap,  tap,  tap.

Clap,  clap,  tap.

Encourage your child to SAY “Clap” and “Tap” as you say the rhyme.

FOR SELF-CONCEPT BODY AWARENESS WITH TODDLERS:

Sing the following song to the tune of “The Farmer In The Dell.”

Where  are  your  piggy  toes?

Where  are  your  piggy  toes?

Oh no, where have they gone,

(pull  off  socks)

I  see  your  piggy  toes.

Pulling off socks is one of the firstborn accomplishments a toddler learns. Sing this song while pulling off your child’s socks, then let your child pull them off by himself. Encourage your child to pull off the socks without any help while you sing the song.

SELF-CONCEPT AND MOTOR SKILLS FOR TODDLERS:

One of the most challenging things a toddler is learning is how to dress herself. Somehow it always seems the diapers come off more comfortable than the shoes go on!

Encourage your child to exercise motor achievements and get started recognizing opposites by giving her a hat that fits without apparent effort on her head. Have her put the hat on and take it off, saying Hat on, hat off, hat on, hat off as she does.

SELF-CONCEPT AND BODY AWARENESS FOR TODDLERS:

Sing the following to the tune of “Are You Sleeping?”

Head  and  shoulders,

Head  and  shoulders.

Knees  and  toes,

Knees  and  toes.

Eyes  and  ears,

Eyes  and  ears.

Mouth  and  nose,

Mouth  and  nose.

Have your child touch each body share as it is sung, then repeat the song naming dissimilar elements of the body.

THINKING  SKILLS  FOR  TODDLERS:

Recognizing that an object is still there altho it can’t be seen is a significant milestone for toddlers. Play peek-a-boo many times with your child, and play games where an object is concealed with a blanket, scarf or bandana, or inside another object.

MOTOR  SKILLS  FOR  TODDLERS:

Recite the following rhyme with your toddler sitting on your knees. Move your knees and toddler up and down following the lyrics.

Marching,  marching,

Up  we  go.

Marching  marching,

Nice  and  slow.

Marching,  marching,

Down,  down,  down.

Marching,  marching,

Through  the  town.

Let your child stand and stretch up high and bend down low, or be lifted high or put down low as you recite the poem.

MOTOR SKILLS, LISTENING, AND EXERCISE FOR TODDLERS:

Large motor achievements are necessitated in order to construct as well. Sing the following song to the tune of “The Farmer In The Dell” and let your child giggle and wiggle as you both do the movements to the song. Substitute dissimilar body constituents and actions.

Shake  your  arms  like  this,

Shake  your  arms  like  this,

Clap your hands and turn around,

Shake  your  arms  like  this.

MOTOR & THINKING SKILLS, EXERCISE FOR TODDLERS AND ALL AGES:

This is a outstanding one to do when you’re super busy, yet your child is demanding your attention. It is also a great action to do for transition times such as after story time getting ready for lunch, after playtime getting ready to go to the store, and other difficult times when you just HAVE to do something else besides hold your toddler on your hip.

Recite the following actions, doing the motions tardily at first, then quickly. The kids will dissolve into peals of laughter and free you up to get a few things done.

Clap, clap, clap your hands as tardily as you can.

Clap, clap, clap your hands as quickly as you can.

Rub, rub, rub your hands as tardily as you can.

Rub, rub, rub your hands as speedily as you can.

Roll  your  hands…

Wiggle your fingers…(sometimes I wiggle my fingers without intention on their ribs!)

Twiddle  your  thumbs…

Stomp  your  feet…

Wiggle  your  body…

Wiggle  your  eyebrows…

Slap  your  knees…

Blink  your  eyes…

ACTION AND LANGUAGE BUILDING POETRY FOR THE YOUNG CHILD:

Poetry is a distinctly delightful way to introduce children to new words and language skills. Here are a couple of poems that have not only lots of fun words to learn, but to act upon, too!

JUMP  OR  JIGGLE

Frogs  jump

Caterpillars  hump

Worms  wiggle

Bugs  jiggle

Rabbits  hop

Horses  clop

Snakes  slide

Seagulls  glide

Mice  creep

Deer  leap

Puppies  bounce

Kittens  pounce

Lions  stalk-

But-

I  walk!

~~~by  EVELYN  BEYER~~~
WHISKY  FRISKY
Whisky  frisky,
Hipperty  hop,
Up  he  goes
To  the  tree  top!
Whirly,  twirly,
Round  and  round,
Down  he  scampers
To  the  ground.
Furly,  curly,
What  a  tail,
Tall  as  a  feather,
Broad  as  a  sail.
Where’s  his  supper?
In  the  shell.
Snappy,  cracky,
Out  it  fell.
ANON
THINKING  SKILLS  AND  SELF-CONCEPT  BODY  AWARENESS  FOR  TODDLERS:
Counting  repetitively  to  two  with  a  toddler  gives  him  a  boost  in  premath  skills.  Have  your  child  point  to  his  ears,  eyes,  hands,  feet,  legs,  knees,  cheeks,  elbows,  thumbs,  huge  toes,  or  heels,  and  count  each  one  with  him:  One,  two,  one,  two,  one,  two…Progress  to  5  fingers  or  toes.
FUN  HUGGING  CUDDLING  GIGGLY  TIME  WITH  YOUR  TODDLER  OR  CHILD  OF  ANY  AGE:
The  following  rhyme  is  a  bestloved  with  kids  of  all  ages.
Round  and  round  the  garden  runs  the  little  mouse.  (Hold  your  child’s  hand  palm  up,  running  your  finger  in  circles  very  lightly  on  his  palm.)
Up,  up,  up  he  scampers,  (Touch  your  child’s  arm  on  wrist,  inside  of  elbow,  and  upper  arm  on  each  “up”.)
Into  his  little  HOUSE!  (Tickle  your  child’s  underarm  on  HOUSE!)  This  is  almost  guaranteed  to  be  a  favored  of  both  you  and  your  child!
Fun  TICKLY  KNEE  Activity:
All  ages  of  my  daycare  kids  have  loved  this  over  the  years.  Very  simple  for  people  who  don’t  memorize  things  well,  it’s  a  outstanding  standby  for  just  when it comes to  any  child!  Just  tickle  the  child’s  knee  above  and  to  the  outside  of  his  knee  while  reciting  the  following,  and  be  almost  100%  guaranteed  that  squeals  of  delight  will  follow,  along  with  continuous  begging  for  MORE,  and  DO  IT  AGAIN!
Tickly  knee,  tickly  knee,  if  your  laugh,  you  don’t  love  me!  (That’s  it!  See,  I  told  you  it  was  simple!)
FUN  SEASONAL  FINGERPLAYS  AND  ACTIVITIES:
Tune-The  Mulberry  Bush
Jumping  in  the  pumpkin  patch,  (jumping  through  the  whole  verse)
Pumpkin  patch,  pumpkin  patch,
Jumping  in  the  pumpkin  patch,
So  early  in  the  morning.
**Substitute  clapping,  stomping,  flying,  swaying,  winking,  etc.
SIMON  SAYS  FOR  HALLOWEEN:
1.  Fly  like  a  bat.
2.  Stomp  like  a  monster.
3.  Walk  like  a  skeleton.
4.  Hop  like  a  bunny.
5.  Pounce  like  a  cat.
6.  Dance  like  a  ballerina.
7.  Roll  like  a  pumpkin…
COUNTING  FIVE  LITTLE  PUMPKINS:
Five  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  broke  his  plate.
Four  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  lost  his  skate.
Three  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  lost  a great deal of  weight.
Two  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  said  “Don’t  be  late!”
The  littlest  pumpking  sitting  on  a  gate
Fell  down  and  said,  “No  more  pumpkins  sitting  on  the  gate!”
FIVE  LITTLE  OWLS:
The  initial  little  owl  has  great,  round  eyes.  (Point  to  one  finger  at  a  time.)
The  second  little  owl  is  of  very  little  size.
The  third  little  owl  may  turn  her  head.
The  fourth  little  owl  likes  mice,  she  said.
The  fifth  little  owl  flies  all  around,
And  her  wings  make  scarcely  a  single  sound.
FOUR  SEASONS  POEM:
Spring  is  showery,  bowery,  flowery.
Summer  is  hoppy,  choppy,  poppy.
Autumn  is  wheezy,  sneezy,  freezy.
Winter  is  slippy,  drippy,  nippy.
ANON
MUD  poem:
Mud  is  very  nice  to  feel
All  squishy-squash  amid  the  toes!
I’d  rather  wade  in  wiggly  mud
Than  smell  a  yellow  rose.
Nobody  else  but  the  rosebush  knows
How  nice  mud  feels  amid  the  toes.
by  Polly  Chase  Boyden
Thunder  Finger  Play:
Thunder  crashes.  (Clap  hands.)
Lightning  flashes.  (Move  hands  with  zigzag  motion.)
Rain  makes  puddles.  (Flutter  fingers.)
So  I  may  make  splashes.  (Jump.)
Fun,  new  words,  even  if  they’re  not  real,  may  be  a  great  way  to  get  a  baby  or  toddler  exposed  to  dissimilar  sounds.  The  earlier  a  child  is  exposed  to  the  sounds  of  dissimilar  languages,  the  more comfortable  it  will  be  for  him  to  pick  up  on  them  and  learn  them  more  fluently.  Here  are  a lot of  fun  poems  with  foolish  words  to  share  with  your  child:
The  Cow  Poem:
The  cow  primarily  moos  as  she  chooses  to  moo
and  she  chooses  to  moo  as  she  chooses.
She  furthermore  chews  as  she  chooses  to  chew
and  she  chooses  to  chew  as  she  muses.
If  she  chooses  to  moo  she  may  moo  to  amuse
or  may  moo  just  to  moo  as  she  chooses.
If  she  chooses  to  chew  she  may  moo  as  she  chews
or  may  chew  just  to  chew  as  she  muses.
by  Jack  Prelutsky
And  a  ridiculous  one  for  an  older  child,  Eletelephony:
Once  there  was  an  elephant,
Who  tried  to  use  the  telephant–
No!  no!  I  mean  an  elephone
Who  tried  to  use  the  telephone–
(Dear  me!  I  am  not  sure  quite
That  even  now  I’ve  got  it  right.)
Howe’er  it  was,  he  got  his  trunk
Entangled  in  the  telephunk;
The  more  he  tried  to  get  it  free,
The  more  buzzed  the  telephee–
(I  fear  I’d  better  drop  the  song
of  elephop  and  telephong!)
Songs  and  fingerplays  are  so  much  fun,  and  are  a  great  bonding  action  amongst  a  child  and  her  parents,  grandparents,  and  other  caregivers.
More  songs,  poetry,  and  fingerplays  will  be  added  to  this  guide  over  time  as  I  run  all over  them  and  as  I  myself  have  time.  Thanks  for  looking,  and  be  sure  to  mark  this  as  one  of  your  favorites  for  easy  reference!
Berk’s  signature  storytelling  style  invites  students  to  actively  learn  besides  the  text’s  “characters”  who  percentage  their  influential  experiences  and  developmental  milestones.  Students  are  provided  with  an  particularly  clear  and  consistent  understanding  of  child  development,  emphasizing  the  interrelatedness  of  all  domains—physical,  cognitive,  emotional,  and  social—throughout  the  text  narrative  and  in  particular  features.  Focusing  on  education  and  social  policy  as  critical  pieces  of  the  dynamic  scheme  in  which  the  child  develops,  Berk  remunerate  meticulous  attention  to  the  most  recent  scholarship  in  the  field.  Berk  helps  students  connect  their  learning  to  their  personal  and  professional  areas  of  interest  and  their  future  pursuits  as  parents,  educators,  heath  care  providers,  counselors,  social  workers,  and  researchers.
This  is  the  standalone  book  if  you  want  the  book/access  card  order  the  ISBN  below:
0205058299  /  9780205058297  Infants,  Children,  and  Adolescents  &  MyDevelopmentLab  with  Pearson  eText  —  Access  Card  Package
Package  comprises  of
0205669115  /  9780205669110  MyDevelopmentLab  with  Pearson  eText  —  Valuepack  Access  Card
0205718167  /  9780205718160  Infants,  Children,  and  Adolescents
Review
“As  always,  Berk  provides  a  comprehensive  discussion  of  developmental  issues.    What  I  be grateful for  is  that  the  text  provides  good  coverage  of  areas  that  are  often times  neglected  by  other  texts  (especially  applied  developmental  issues).”  —  Debbie  Laible,  Southern  Methodist  University
“Making  theories  utile  and  fun  to  talk about  is  a  chore,  but  Berk  proceeds  to  make  these  user-friendly  and  applicable  to  the  real  world.”  —  F.  Richard  Ferraro,  University  of  North  Dakota
“The  writing  in  this  edition  is  very  clear,  interesting  and  engaging.    The  level  is  perfective  for  my  students.    The  explanations  are  appropriate,  relevant,  and  clear.    The  examples  are  interesting  and  understandable.    There  are  a great deal  of  illustrations,  photographs  and  review  suggestions  that  guide  the  students  toward  success.”  —  Sara  Lawrence,  California  State  University,  Northridge
“We  have  employed  this  text  in  our  division  for  this  course  for  assorted  years  now,  just  because  it  works.    The  students  appear  to  like  it,  and  they  find  it  challenging  and  useful.”  —  Colin  T.  William,  Columbus  State  Community  College
“I  feel  that  one  of  the  best  compliments  a  student  may  give  a  text  is  to  say  ‘I  am  not  going  to  resell  this  book  at  the  end  of  the  semester  —  I  am  going  to  keep  it  as  a  reference  book.’    I  listen  this  comment  often  from  my  students  who  use  the  Berk  text.”    “The  clarity  and  level  of  writing,  the  timeliness  of  the  material,  and  the  institution  of  the  material  make  the  text  student-friendly.”  —  Martin  Marino,  Atlantic  Cape  Community  College
“The  writing  level  of  this  text  is  exemplary!    The  integration  of  exploration  determinations  and  “plain  language”  explanations  allows  the  students  to  interact  seamlessly  with  the  text.”      “.  .  .  a  terrifically  comprehensive  and  intellectual  resource.”  —  Matthew  DiCintio,  Delaware  County  Community  College
“Probably  one  the  biggest  amount of energy  of  chapter  14  is  the  level  at  which  it  is  written.    .  .  .  with  the  experience  of  a  child  developmental  specialist,  but  not  so  technical  that  the  students  would  be  lost  in  jargon.”    “Berk  combines  the  latest  applicable  exploration  without  making  the  text  read  like  a  science  book.”  —  Sandra  Hellyer,  Butler  University
“Berk’s  text  provides  preservice  teachers  and  others  preparing  to  work  with  young  children  and  their  families  a  solid  grounding  upon  which  to  base  their  work.    It  deserves  a  place  on  students’  bookshelves  allround  their  careers  as  a  basic  reference.”  —  Nancy  Freeman,  University  of  South  Carolina
“I  adopted  the  text  because  of  the  quality  of  writing  and  coverage  of  topics  I  feel  are  critical  in  developmental  psychology.”  —  Ron  Craig,  Edinboro  University  of  Pennsylvania
“I  find  the  text  to  be  very  up-to-date  and  packed  with  research.    Along  with  Berk’s  writing  style,  I  carry on  to  come  back  to  her  text.”  “I  find  Berk  does  a  good  occupation  linking  areas  of  development  together  which  is  a  major  special and significant stress  of  this  course.    I  think  the  vignettes  at  the  beginning  of  each  chapter  are  helpful  here.”  “I  particularly  like  the  links  made  amid  theory  and  education  as  this  is  the  major  application  of  the  theories  and  provides  the  ‘so  what’  portion  of  developmental  research.    I  try  to  get  students  understand  why  this  exploration  is  primary  and  how  we  utilise  it  the  real  world.    This  is  also  why  I  like  the  boxes  in  each  chapter  –  ‘Applying  What  We  Know.’”  —  Lisa  Huffman,  Ball  State  University
“I  specially  be grateful for  Berk’s  inclusion  of  multicultural  perspectives.  It  is  crucial  to  aid  students,  exceptionally  those  who  are  just  beginning  their  professional  preparation,  to  put  what  we  know  when it comes to  young  children  and  their  development  into  a  cultural  context.  This  text  does  that  masterfully  with  words  AND  with  pictures.”  —  Nancy  Freeman,  University  of  South  Carolina
“I  in truth  enjoyed  the  writing  style  used  by  the  author.    I  specially  liked  the  way  that  the  story  from  the  beginning  of  the  chapter  was  woven  all around  all  the  sections  of  each  chapter.    In  addition,  using  the  same  characters  in  subsequent  chapters  actually  pulled  together  the  links  amid  developmental  domains.”  —  Lynn  Caruso,  Seneca  College,  Canada
“Writing  Style:  Fabulous!    Information  in  these  chapters  is  systematically  staged  in  a  clear,  concise  style.    The  reader  is  very  much  ‘involved’  in  the  material.    This  is  achieved  through  the  use  of  active  language.  .  .”  —  Deb  Gural,  Red  River  College,  Canada
“I  think  if  a  student  feels  the  material  he  will  recognise  it.    The  value  of  the  Ask  Yourself  segmentations  is  monumental.”    “The  thing  that  I  am  most  impressed  with  is  the  examples  the  author  uses.    I  found  that  often times  I  had  new  perceptivenesses  in  to  child  development  issues  even  even though  I  have  been  instructing  and  working  in  the  field  for  years.    These  perceptivities  were  so  well  thought  out  that  I  think  that  they  would  be  very  helpful  students  when  learning  the  material.”  —  John  Prange,  Irvine  Valley  College
“The  author’s  writing  style  is  very  engrossing.    She  is  peculiarly  accomplished  in  her  noesis  of  developmental  psychology.    I  think  her  writing  will  be  easy  for  my  students  to  follow.”  —  Algea  Harrison,  Oakland  University
“At  all  times,  Berk  seems  to  make  a  real  effort  to  keep  the  style  clear  and  uncluttered.    The  use  of  unnecessary  technical  terms  is  fended off  yet  the  key  words/phrases  that  are  necessitated  to  genuinely  describe  the  topic  are  there.”  —  David  Lockwood,  Humber  College,  Canada
From  the  Back  CoverLaura  Berk,  famous  professor  and  researcher  in  the  field  of  child  development,  has  modified  her  successful  chronological  text  with  heightened  attention  to  the  kinship  amongst  theory,  research,  and  applications.  In  her  signature  storytelling  style,  Berk  presents  a  “cast  of  characters”  based  on  real  children  and  families  for  each  unit,  and  genuinely  uses  these  characters,  by  telling  their  “stories,”  to  illustrate  the  sequence  and  processes  of  child  development.
Of particular interest to most  of those parents are the diverse  tables which clarify the expected and unique behaviors of children  by age  group.  This provides those parents with a guide book to assist them in  child rearing through age 18. That reference material not only facilitates  the parent’s understanding of the needs of the child, but also better  prepares more effective parenting skills and preparation for developmental  issues which are significant in  custody and visitation (or access) legal  questions. Parents have reported developing a feeling of confidence since  they are using scientific data in making parenting decisiions. Legal  authorities — judges and attorneys — have felt more confident in their  recommendations, opinions, and decisions which are based upon evidence.  —  Swen Helge, Ph.D.
Going  through  pregnancy  there  is  normally  less  than  9  months  to  prepare  yourself  and  your  home  for  the  new  addition  to  your  family.  There  are  a  number  of  things  that  you  will have to  buy  in  advance  which  are  either  necessary  or  could  just  make  your  life  requiring little effort  when  you  return  home  after  birth.
Items  To  Buy
1.  Somewhere  for  the  baby  to  sleep.
This  could  be  a  cot,  carrycot  or  crib.  A  lightweight  and  portable  bed  is  ofttimes  seen  as  best  for the duration of  the  initial  few  weeks  as  your  baby  will  be  sleeping  a  lot  and  it  will  help  if  you  may  move  the  sleeping  place  from  room  to  room.  You  will  normally  need  to  buy  a  cot  by  around  6  months  depending  on  how  quickly  your  baby  grows.
2.  A  Pram.
A  pram  or  pushchair  is  one  of  the  most  highpriced  purchases  in  the  initial  year.  Full  size  traditionalisti  prams  are  very  hard  wearing  and  warm  and  comfortable.  They  are  normally  at  the  more  costly  end  of  the  range  but  seem  to  keep  their  value  well  when  sold  on.  Many  parents  opt  for  a  pram  in  2  parts;  a  fold  down  frame  and  a  top  which  may  be  employed  as  a  carrycot  with  handles.  Things  to  bear  in  mind  with  this  are  that  escalators  may  be  difficult  as  well  as  travel  on  buses.  You  need  to  determine  how  you  will  be  travelling,  where  your  destinations  will  be  and  then  choose  the  schemes  that  suit  you  best.
3.  Car  Seat
If  travelling  by  car  you  ought to  always  use  a  car  seat  and  follow  the  manufacturer’s  instructions  for  fitting.  The  car  seat  must  be  the  rectify  type  of  seat  for  the  stage  of  your  baby.  This  is  one  item  that  you  must  unquestionably  buy  new  as  you  won’t  know  if  a  second-hand  seat  has  been  damaged.  Learn  how  to  fit  and  use  your  car  seat  properly.
4.  Clothing
Most  initial  time  parents  go  a  little  overboard  when  buying  for  their  initial  child.  Buy  what  you  need  as  a  minimum  and  spend  the  cash  on  costume  for  a  somewhat  older  age  when  your  baby  is  born.  Here’s  what  you  need:
2  shawls  or  wraps
4  vests
4  stretch  suits
2  cardigans
1  snowsuit  or  similar
3  pairs  of  socks  (unless  all  costume  has  feet)
1  pair  of  mittens
1  hat
5.  Changing  Equipment
There’s  a  lot  of  debate  at  the  moment  as  to  the  choice  of  disposable  or  terry  nappies/diapers.  The  choice  is  yours  but  most  people  opt  for  disposable  nappies/diapers.  New  babies  will  get  through  at  least  6  nappies/diapers  a  day  so  stock  up!
Nappies/Diapers
Baby  lotion/cotton  wool  balls  or  baby  wipes
-  Normal  counsel  is  to  use  water  and  cotton  wool  initially  and  then  use  olive  oil  as  a  moisturiser  on  a  newborn  baby
Barrier  cream
6.  Feeding  Equipment
If  you  are  going  to  breastfeed  then  make  sure  that  you  know  what  you  need  to  recognise  –  see  the  bottom  of  this  article  for  a  free  breastfeeding  guide.
For  bottle  feeding  you  will  need:
Bottles  (I  would  commend  6)
A  sterilizing  kit
Formula  milk
Burping  towels
Bibs
7.  Baby  chair/Bouncer
Choose  one  that  supports  the  baby’s  head  if  you  plan  to  use  this  from  birth.  Your  baby  will  love  to  see  what’s  going  on  but  you  shouldn’t  put  the  chair  or  bouncer  on  a  raised  surface.  The  arrival  of  your  original  child  is  a  magical  time  and  preparation  for  this  particular  time  may  lead  you  to  ‘spoil’  your  child  before  it  is  born  by  buying  loads  of  costume  and  equipment.  Your  baby  will  grow  out  of  its’  costume  after  3-4  months  and  it  won’t  genuinely  ever  get  the  clothes  that  dirty.
You  may  save  a  lot  of  cash  by  using  second  hand  costume  and  instrumentation  and  if  you  are  on  a  budget  or  are  just  conscious  observing  what  you  spend  you  may  surely  go  down  this  route  with  confidence.  If  buying  instrumentation  stay  away  from  genuinely  old  instrumentation  and  check  for  any  signs  of  damage.  Operate  any  moving  parts  and  ascertain  that  the  instrumentation  is  fit  for  purpose.  As  stated,  always  buy  a  new  car  seat.
Good  luck  with  the  birth  and  your  new  arrival.
That  precious  little  person  in  your  life  is  unquestionably  the  cutest  thing  on  the  planet  earth,  and  in a positive manner  the  most  intelligent!  Why,  he  was  born  speaking  Greek,  and  you  don’t  even  know  any  alien  languages!
But  seriously,  language  is  one  of  the  initial  ways  developmental  growth  in  children  is  noticed  by  the  general  population.  Mom  and  Dad  and  Grandma  and  Grandpa  recognise  this  baby  is  the  next  Baseball  Hall  of  Famer  or  Albert  Einstein,  but  the  cashier  at  the  supermarket  won’t  know  diddly  squat  with regards to  that  endearing  huge  blue  eyed  baby  unless  she  may  speak  intelligently  while  strapped  safely  in  the  buying goods  cart.
So  how  may  one  support  advertize  language  attainments  besides  reciting  the  abc’s  and  Mary  Had  a  Little  Lamb  and  Twinkle  Twinkle  Little  Star  over  and  over  again?
Starting  with  finger  plays,  action  rhymes,  and  songs  to  sing,  there  will  be  a good deal of  activenesses  listed.  Each  will  explain  the  multi  intents  of  and  the  age  of  the  child  for  which  the  action  is  intended.  More  will  be  added  over  time  as  they  are  found.
FOR  MOTOR  SKILLS  WITH  TODDLERS:
Start  with  clapping  and  tapping  your  hands  and  feet.  Let  your  toddler  mimic  your  actions.
Read  the  following  rhyme,  clapping  and  tapping  when  indicated:
I  have  two  little  hands  that  clap,  clap,  clap.
I  have  two  little  feet  that  tap,  tap,  tap.
Clap,  clap,  clap.
Tap,  tap,  tap.
Clap,  clap,  tap.
Encourage  your  child  to  SAY  “Clap”  and  “Tap”  as  you  say  the  rhyme.
FOR  SELF-CONCEPT  BODY  AWARENESS  WITH  TODDLERS:
Sing  the  following  song  to  the  tune  of  “The  Farmer  In  The  Dell.”
Where  are  your  piggy  toes?
Where  are  your  piggy  toes?
Oh  no,  where  have  they  gone,
(pull  off  socks)
I  see  your  piggy  toes.
Pulling  off  socks  is  one  of  the  introductory  attainments  a  toddler  learns.  Sing  this  song  while  pulling  off  your  child’s  socks,  then  let  your  child  pull  them  off  by  himself.  Encourage  your  child  to  pull  off  the  socks  without  any  support  while  you  sing  the  song.
SELF-CONCEPT  AND  MOTOR  SKILLS  FOR  TODDLERS:
One  of  the  most  challenging  things  a  toddler  is  learning  is  how  to  dress  herself.  Somehow  it  always  seems  the  diapers  come  off  requiring little effort  than  the  shoes  go  on!
Encourage  your  child  to  exercise  motor  accomplishments  and  commence  recognizing  opposites  by  giving  her  a  hat  that  fits  effortlessly  on  her  head.  Have  her  put  the  hat  on  and  take  it  off,  saying  Hat  on,  hat  off,  hat  on,  hat  off  as  she  does.
SELF-CONCEPT  AND  BODY  AWARENESS  FOR  TODDLERS:
Sing  the  following  to  the  tune  of  “Are  You  Sleeping?”
Head  and  shoulders,
Head  and  shoulders.
Knees  and  toes,
Knees  and  toes.
Eyes  and  ears,
Eyes  and  ears.
Mouth  and  nose,
Mouth  and  nose.
Have  your  child  touch  each  body  portion  as  it  is  sung,  then  repeat  the  song  naming  dissimilar  elements  of  the  body.
THINKING  SKILLS  FOR  TODDLERS:
Recognizing  that  an  object  is  still  there  altho  it  can’t  be  seen  is  a  significant  milestone  for  toddlers.  Play  peek-a-boo  oftentimes  with  your  child,  and  play  games  where  an  object  is  concealed  with  a  blanket,  scarf  or  bandana,  or  inside  another  object.
MOTOR  SKILLS  FOR  TODDLERS:
Recite  the  following  rhyme  with  your  toddler  sitting  on  your  knees.  Move  your  knees  and  toddler  up  and  down  following  the  lyrics.
Marching,  marching,
Up  we  go.
Marching  marching,
Nice  and  slow.
Marching,  marching,
Down,  down,  down.
Marching,  marching,
Through  the  town.
Let  your  child  stand  and  stretch  up  high  and  bend  down  low,  or  be  lifted  high  or  put  down  low  as  you  recite  the  poem.
MOTOR  SKILLS,  LISTENING,  AND  EXERCISE  FOR  TODDLERS:
Large  motor  accomplishments  are  necessitated  in  order  to  invent  as  well.  Sing  the  following  song  to  the  tune  of  “The  Farmer  In  The  Dell”  and  let  your  child  giggle  and  wiggle  as  you  both  do  the  movements  to  the  song.  Substitute  dissimilar  body  constituents  and  actions.
Shake  your  arms  like  this,
Shake  your  arms  like  this,
Clap  your  hands  and  turn  around,
Shake  your  arms  like  this.
MOTOR  &  THINKING  SKILLS,  EXERCISE  FOR  TODDLERS  AND  ALL  AGES:
This  is  a  outstanding  one  to  do  when  you’re  super  busy,  yet  your  child  is  demanding  your  attention.  It  is  also  a  great  action  to  do  for  transition  times  such  as  after  story  time  getting  ready  for  lunch,  after  playtime  getting  ready  to  go  to  the  store,  and  other  difficult  times  when  you  just  HAVE  to  do  something  else  besides  hold  your  toddler  on  your  hip.
Recite  the  following  actions,  doing  the  motions  tardily  at  first,  then  quickly.  The  kids  will  dissolve  into  peals  of  laughter  and  free  you  up  to  get  a  few  things  done.
Clap,  clap,  clap  your  hands  as  tardily  as  you  can.
Clap,  clap,  clap  your  hands  as  quickly  as  you  can.
Rub,  rub,  rub  your  hands  as  tardily  as  you  can.
Rub,  rub,  rub  your  hands  as  quickly  as  you  can.
Roll  your  hands…
Wiggle  your  fingers…(sometimes  I  wiggle  my  fingers  without intention  on  their  ribs!)
Twiddle  your  thumbs…
Stomp  your  feet…
Wiggle  your  body…
Wiggle  your  eyebrows…
Slap  your  knees…
Blink  your  eyes…
ACTION  AND  LANGUAGE  BUILDING  POETRY  FOR  THE  YOUNG  CHILD:
Poetry  is  a  distinctly  delightful  way  to  introduce  children  to  new  words  and  language  skills.  Here  are  a  couple  of  poems  that  have  not  only  a large total  of  fun  words  to  learn,  but  to  act  upon,  too!
JUMP  OR  JIGGLE
Frogs  jump
Caterpillars  hump
Worms  wiggle
Bugs  jiggle
Rabbits  hop
Horses  clop
Snakes  slide
Seagulls  glide
Mice  creep
Deer  leap
Puppies  bounce
Kittens  pounce
WHISKY  FRISKY
Whisky  frisky,
Hipperty  hop,
Up  he  goes
To  the  tree  top!
Whirly,  twirly,
Round  and  round,
Down  he  scampers
To  the  ground.
Furly,  curly,
What  a  tail,
Tall  as  a  feather,
Broad  as  a  sail.
Where’s  his  supper?
In  the  shell.
Snappy,  cracky,
Out  it  fell.
ANON
THINKING  SKILLS  AND  SELF-CONCEPT  BODY  AWARENESS  FOR  TODDLERS:
Counting  repetitively  to  two  with  a  toddler  gives  him  a  boost  in  premath  skills.  Have  your  child  point  to  his  ears,  eyes,  hands,  feet,  legs,  knees,  cheeks,  elbows,  thumbs,  huge  toes,  or  heels,  and  count  each  one  with  him:  One,  two,  one,  two,  one,  two…Progress  to  5  fingers  or  toes.
FUN  HUGGING  CUDDLING  GIGGLY  TIME  WITH  YOUR  TODDLER  OR  CHILD  OF  ANY  AGE:
The  following  rhyme  is  a  favored  with  kids  of  all  ages.
Round  and  round  the  garden  runs  the  little  mouse.  (Hold  your  child’s  hand  palm  up,  running  your  finger  in  circles  very  lightly  on  his  palm.)
Up,  up,  up  he  scampers,  (Touch  your  child’s  arm  on  wrist,  inside  of  elbow,  and  upper  arm  on  each  “up”.)
Into  his  little  HOUSE!  (Tickle  your  child’s  underarm  on  HOUSE!)  This  is  almost  guaranteed  to  be  a  favored  of  both  you  and  your  child!
Fun  TICKLY  KNEE  Activity:
All  ages  of  my  daycare  kids  have  loved  this  over  the  years.  Very  simple  for  humans  who  don’t  memorize  things  well,  it’s  a  outstanding  standby  for  just  regarding  any  child!  Just  tickle  the  child’s  knee  above  and  to  the  outside  of  his  knee  while  reciting  the  following,  and  be  closely  100%  guaranteed  that  squeals  of  delight  will  follow,  along  with  ceaseless  begging  for  MORE,  and  DO  IT  AGAIN!
Tickly  knee,  tickly  knee,  if  your  laugh,  you  don’t  love  me!  (That’s  it!  See,  I  told  you  it  was  simple!)
FUN  SEASONAL  FINGERPLAYS  AND  ACTIVITIES:
Tune-The  Mulberry  Bush
Jumping  in  the  pumpkin  patch,  (jumping  through  the  whole  verse)
Pumpkin  patch,  pumpkin  patch,
Jumping  in  the  pumpkin  patch,
So  early  in  the  morning.
**Substitute  clapping,  stomping,  flying,  swaying,  winking,  etc.
SIMON  SAYS  FOR  HALLOWEEN:
1.  Fly  like  a  bat.
2.  Stomp  like  a  monster.
3.  Walk  like  a  skeleton.
4.  Hop  like  a  bunny.
5.  Pounce  like  a  cat.
6.  Dance  like  a  ballerina.
7.  Roll  like  a  pumpkin…
COUNTING  FIVE  LITTLE  PUMPKINS:
Five  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  broke  his  plate.
Four  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  lost  his  skate.
Three  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  lost  a lot of  weight.
Two  little  pumpkins  sitting  on  a  gate.
One  fell  down  and  said  “Don’t  be  late!”
The  littlest  pumpking  sitting  on  a  gate
Fell  down  and  said,  “No  more  pumpkins  sitting  on  the  gate!”
FIVE  LITTLE  OWLS:
The  introductory  little  owl  has  great,  round  eyes.  (Point  to  one  finger  at  a  time.)
The  second  little  owl  is  of  very  little  size.
The  third  little  owl  may  turn  her  head.
The  fourth  little  owl  likes  mice,  she  said.
The  fifth  little  owl  flies  all  around,
And  her  wings  make  scarcely  a  single  sound.
FOUR  SEASONS  POEM:
Spring  is  showery,  bowery,  flowery.
Summer  is  hoppy,  choppy,  poppy.
Autumn  is  wheezy,  sneezy,  freezy.
Winter  is  slippy,  drippy,  nippy.
ANON
MUD  poem:
Mud  is  very  nice  to  feel
All  squishy-squash  amidst  the  toes!
I’d  rather  wade  in  wiggly  mud
Than  smell  a  yellow  rose.
Nobody  else  but  the  rosebush  knows
How  nice  mud  feels  amongst  the  toes.
by  Polly  Chase  Boyden
Thunder  Finger  Play:
Thunder  crashes.  (Clap  hands.)
Lightning  flashes.  (Move  hands  with  zigzag  motion.)
Rain  makes  puddles.  (Flutter  fingers.)
So  I  may  make  splashes.  (Jump.)
Fun,  new  words,  even  if  they’re  not  real,  may  be  a  outstanding  way  to  get  a  baby  or  toddler  exposed  to  dissimilar  sounds.  The  earlier  a  child  is  exposed  to  the  sounds  of  dissimilar  languages,  the  requiring little effort  it  will  be  for  him  to  pick  up  on  them  and  learn  them  more  fluently.  Here  are  numerous  fun  poems  with  ridiculous  words  to  part  with  your  child:
The  Cow  Poem:
The  cow  principally  moos  as  she  chooses  to  moo
and  she  chooses  to  moo  as  she  chooses.
She  furthermore  chews  as  she  chooses  to  chew
and  she  chooses  to  chew  as  she  muses.
If  she  chooses  to  moo  she  may  moo  to  amuse
or  may  moo  just  to  moo  as  she  chooses.
If  she  chooses  to  chew  she  may  moo  as  she  chews
or  may  chew  just  to  chew  as  she  muses.
by  Jack  Prelutsky
And  a  foolish  one  for  an  older  child,  Eletelephony:
Once  there  was  an  elephant,
Who  tried  to  use  the  telephant–
No!  no!  I  mean  an  elephone
Who  tried  to  use  the  telephone–
(Dear  me!  I  am  not  sure  quite
That  even  now  I’ve  got  it  right.)
Howe’er  it  was,  he  got  his  trunk
Entangled  in  the  telephunk;
The  more  he  tried  to  get  it  free,
The  more  buzzed  the  telephee–
(I  fear  I’d  better  drop  the  song
of  elephop  and  telephong!)
Songs  and  fingerplays  are  so  much  fun,  and  are  a  great  bonding  action  amid  a  child  and  her  parents,  grandparents,  and  other  caregivers.
More  songs,  poetry,  and  fingerplays  will  be  added  to  this  guide  over  time  as  I  run  all over  them  and  as  I  myself  have  time.  Thanks  for  looking,  and  be  sure  to  mark  this  as  one  of  your  favorites  for  easy  reference!
When  it  comes  to  babies,  no  one  knows  what  the  trend  will  be  for  their  clothes.  The  mothers  and  fathers  of  the  children  today  were  the  kids/teenagers  of  the  80′s  generation  punk  rock/alternative  era.  Many  chose  to  stay  in  the  1980s  and  not  grow  up.  A  Peter  Pan  condition  seems  to  have  hit.  Many  parents  will  dress  their  little  Joey’s  or  Susie’s,  which  are  matter  of  punk  rock  and  biker  attire.  Many  baby-clothing  outlets  love  these  types.  They  are  intended  to  fashion  even  the  most  anarchistic  and  anti  social  parents  proud  to  sport  their  child  around,  saying,  “Isn’t  my  baby  lovable and childlike  in  punk  rock  clothing?”
There  are  a lot of  special line of work  shops  and  online  stores  that  offer  these  types  of  clothing.  Most  of  them  intended  for  just  for  babies  and  infants  and  designed  in  a  tee-shirt  format  or  one-piece  suits.    Listed  under  are  galore  of  the  slogans  applied  and  may  be  found:
-  Hung  Like  A  5-year  old?
-  If  You  Can  Read  This…  THE  BIB  FELL  OFF!  (UK  oriented)
-  Mom  Knows  A  Lot,  But  Grandma  Knows  Everything.
-  If  Mommy  Says  No,  Ask  Daddy
-  Little  Punker  (UK  oriented)
-  It’s  Not  Going  To  Change  Itself!  –  this  is  in  reference  to  a  diaper  in  need  of  changing.  On  the  shirt,  there  is  a  picture  of  Stewie  from  Family  Guy  and  he  has  his  rear  end  out  of  his  outfit,  asking  for  a  change.    (It’s  in truth  cute!)
Most  of  the  clothing’s  color  comes  in  the  traditionalisti  blacks,  reds  and  pinks  used  by  punk  rockers  of  yesterday  and  today.  Some  of  these  slogans  may  be  found  in  the  United  Kingdom  as  well  as  in  the  United  States.  The  ones  seen  in  the  UK  may  be  found  on  the  Internet  and  for  those  in  the  US,  it  is  the  same  way.
A  standard  British  baby  outlet  does  very  good.  The  name  of  it  is  called  The  Rally  Shack.  It  has  the  “The  Bib  Fell  Off”  shirt  in  sizes  6  months,  18  months  and  24  months.  It  does  so  well  that  one  has  to  think  that  the  punk  rocker  of  the  yesterdays  saved  up  their  cash  just  to  buy  these  outfits.    This  outfit,  amidst  many,  galore  others  retails  around  $18  US  cash  and  £10  UK  cash.    $18  bucks  is  a  heavy  price  for  an  outfit  that  is  going  to  have  spit  up  and  poop  on  it  as  well  as  be  outgrown  in  no  time.  Yet,  children  need  clothes  and  parents  do  have  their  styles  too.  There  is  a  market  for  these  types  of  outfits.
Listed  underneath  are  two  shops  that  do  specialize  in  these  outfits:
The  Kids  Window  –  Based  out  of  the  UK,  the  internet site  offers  the  US,  UK,  European  and  other  world  versions  and  sells  conventional  and  substitute  baby  clothing.  Many  costume  are  offered  including  hoodies.  Prices  for  the  outfits  range  from  £12  to  £16.99  (approximately  $22  to  $31  US  money).
Lucky  L’il  Devil  –  Based  out  of  the  US,  the  internet site  offers  everything  any  parent  perchance  will  want  to  turn  the  baby  into  a  little  hoodlum  underneath  on  roof.  In  addition  to  rock  and  pop  culture  enthused  Tee  shirts  such  as  humors  shirt  readings  along  with  the  Betty  Page  and  homage  tees  that  are  offered;  they  also  sport  apron  dresses  and  leggings  that  receive  images  of  situational  events.  One  such  tee  shirt  reads,  “Daddy  Drinks  because  I  Cry.”  The  stores  prices  vary  from  $17  to  $18  for  t-shirts  while  the  apron  dresses  are  $34  to  $36  and  $17  for  the  leggings.
Miller
I was in a bookstore, and happened upon this book.  I picked it up and started to read, and began to giggle, out loud.  I felt that I was being too loud, so I closed the book and put it down until I felt I was under control again.  I then picked it up to read, but burst into giggles again.  This happened several times.  I wanted to buy the book in the store but it was kind of beat up, so I ordered from Amazon.  I gave this book to my friend for her baby shower, and it was the absolute hit of the party!  You know how everyone passes the presents around, “Oh, how nice, ANOTHER tube of Desitin!” “Oh, of COURSE she can use another frilly baby headband!” and no one really looks at them or cares?  Well this book took about an hour to make it around the circle; its progress was punctuated with shrieks of laughter.  We even called her husband in and he read it and totally cracked up.  My friend says she is actually going to use the spinner on the front of the book.
It provided the laughter that we desperately needed after a week without sleep. Even after the fifth time through, I still laugh out loud at most pages. It’s especially fun to share with friends and family when they come over, and now I know not to wake the baby with an air horn.
This book is a perfect gift for new parents.
DO NOT place baby in dryer.
By Jason Rene
This book is hilarious!  I can’t think of a better gift for someone who is about to have a baby.  Sure, you could buy them a Dr. Spock book, a car seat, diapers, or some other equally boring gift, but this ten dollar treat will have them actually remembering who you are!  Of course, it also might end your friendship if you are implying in a not-so-subtle manner that you question their parenting skills and believe their baby is in imminent danger.  But even if they do never speak to you again, at least you will always be remembered for this wonderful book.
